Cleanup Day Memories
April 25: The Longest Catwalk
Eighteen neighbors pitched in to clean up the catwalk between Lorca Dr. and Cartagena Dr. on April 25. The group documented loose boards and rotting, termite-damaged wood in the wooden steps, and recommended that the RCC ask the city for repairs. Old-time residents were joined by seven young people! Bill Lister, a professional gardner, was joined by catwalk neighbor Karen Bartelt-Adams, a landscape architect. Bob Jertberg, an area builder, brought his two sons, Bobby and Braydon, and a friend. Six members of the Dermody family lent their hands.
March 28, 2009: Clay Elementary School and ParkClay Principal Valerie Voss (who, with her mother, worked alongside the neighbors who showed up for the March cleanup event). sent a letter of appreciation to the RCC: March 23, 2009
Dear Rolando Community Council,
Thank you for giving up your Saturday morning to spruce up Clay Elementary School. Everyone noticed how beautiful and clean the campus looked on Monday. The grounds have never looked so neat and trim.
We are so fortunate to have such wonderfully caring community members in the neighborhood. Again, we appreciate your work ethic and your willingness to make a difference for our children. You're welcome to stop by our school anytime. On behlaf of Caly's staff, parents and students, I thank you again.
Sincerely,
Valerie Voss PrincipalFebruary 21 : Two Catwalks Two dozen neighbors met Feb. 21 at the intersection of Lerida and Bonillo to tackle the first two catwalks: one linking that intersection with Lorca, and another a block away at the intersection of Lerida and Marraco that connects to Malcolm Drive.
