Join RCC at the Police Musuem

Have you visited the San Diego Police Museum on College Avenue just north of El Cajon Blvd?  The San Diego Police Historical Association, under the leadership of president Rick Carlson, has transformed the old city library into a treasure trove, looking back on San Diego police history.  You can
review Mayor Sanders’ early days in the police force.  See police gear from the past.  Visit a mock-up jail cell.  Examine an old police motorcycle. Check out a mounted police exhibit and much more.

Last December, Rick Carlson hosted the Rolando Community Council (RCC) holiday party at the museum.  Museum directors brought some of their historic police vehicles.  Neighbors were amazed at the museum exhibits.  Carlson once again has invited us to gather there for our neighborhood holiday celebration. So, if you missed last year, you have a chance to join our holiday gathering this year and enjoy the museum as well.

Museum president Rick Carlson will be there to share his experiences on the force.  Carlson was a San Diego Police officer for 35 years and a Homicide Detective for 8 years. He also worked 15 years as a negotiator. For the last 5 years of his career he was assigned to the Violent Crimes Task Force. He will keep you spellbound with inside stories.

Carlson and museum directors have a deep interest in the youth of our community.   High school students needing to meet community service graduation requirements can complete their obligation at the museum doing anything from janitorial services to being a museum guide. A new academy program is in the making for 12 to 13 year-olds to provide a positive and personal experience with police officers and their work.

All Rolando residents are invited to join RCC in sharing holiday spirit at the museum on December 15th between 6:30 and 8:30 pm.  Bring your good cheer and holiday treats to share.

If you have an interest in police work, consider volunteering at this local treasure.

Special museum tours can be arranged for groups.  The regular museum hours are Wednesday through Friday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2:00 pm.  You can contact the museum at 4710 College Avenue. San Diego, CA 92115-3905, (619) 726-6151 or http://www.sandiegopolicemuseum.com
